SABC TO BROADCAST AT THE UNVEILING OF OR TAMBO STATUE
South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) joins South Africans and the world in the unveiling of the life-size statue of Oliver Reginald Tambo at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, 19 October 2017. The event is part of the build-up to the centenary celebration that will take place on 27 October 2017 under the theme: “Life and Legacy of OR Tambo” and is expected to run until December 2017.
Nine SABC Radio Stations, News and Current Affairs will be broadcasting from OR Tambo International Airport between 6h00 and 13h00 including live interviews on Morning Live and morning drive time radio shows. Other platforms and programmes will be crossing to the event at different intervals.
“As part of the SABC’s mandate to inform, educate and entertain, the nine Radio stations that will broadcast the event include 5FM, SAFM, Radio 2000, Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Lesedi FM, Ikwekwezi FM, Channel Africa, and METRO FM. Other SABC Radio stations will be supporting the event on air using the #ORTambo100 with the support of the SABC digital news. SABC News and current affairs programmes will also cover the event”, said Mr Kaizer Kganyago, the Spokesperson for the SABC.
Content on OR Tambo has been a permanent feature on SABC platforms since 100 and 50 day countdown to his birthday on 27 October 2017. Storyline integration into soapies, broadcast of documentaries are some of the activities that the SABC is doing to celebrate this giant. The official hashtag for the campaign is: #ORTambo100
