The SA Rugby Team’s 2015 winning recipe might just once gain put the OR Tambo Airport to a standstill when the Bokke bring the trophy back home with. The winning nation’s spirit is as alive as it was when the country celebrated its first victory in 1995.
On 14 August 2015, the SABC launched its new Institutional Review Board Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign – Habashwe, Let’s do this!, at Auckland Park in Johannesburg. This is a call to action that all South Africans can get behind.
The Habashwe campaign will seek to galvanise all South Africans behind the Springboks for the World Cup and highlight the SABC’s live broadcasts of the tournament on SABC 2 and various radio stations, going an extra mile to ensure that all South Africans have the opportunity to enjoy the tournament.
Amabhokobhoko made the SA citizenry proud when they claimed victory in 1995 in South Africa. Tata Nelson Mandela’s warm support was the force behind our boys’ winning spirit, a gesture of reinforced unity in South Africa. Twelve years later, history was to repeat itself when crowds were jubilantly waiting for the champions at OR Tambo Airport, when they brought home the trophy, having won in France in 2007.
At the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the Springboks will take on the rest of the world in pursuit of our 3rd Webb Ellis trophy.
The Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off on Friday September 18. The tournament will be live on SABC platforms from 18th September till 31st October. On SABC 2 we will have 36 matches with 29 matches live, as well as 7 delayed matches. South African audiences will enjoy all Springbok matches live with excellent match build up and commentary from SABC’s expert panel of analysts and sport anchors. As a build up to the Rugby World Cup 2015, SABC 2 will broadcast a series of documentaries which will highlight the history and the significant moments of the Rugby World Cup. It was the 17th of August 2011 when the SABC launched the ‘It’s Our Game’ IRB Rugby World Cup 2011 campaign to the media at one of the classy RBF studios, the M1 Studio, situated at Head Office in Auckland Park. A RWC TV advertisement served to inspire the national rugby team, as it was also intended to fulfil the SABC mandate of building the nation. This time around, a promo with similar objectives is part of the ‘Habashwe, Let’s do this!’ campaign.
In 2011, SABC Television Outside Broadcasts had invested in some new technology by acquiring 3 DMNG units (digital mobile news gathering units), specifically for SABC Sport to use to cover the stories around the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The units used 3G technologies and the web to transmit clips and stories back to the studio in JHB. This was said to be a lot cheaper and more convenient than using satellite links and store and forwarding from hotels since the crew could go live or feed stories from anywhere as long as there was a 3G cell phone signal available from a couple of service providers.
It is 2015; it will be done!
