SA had brought the national U17 team to the tournament as they also build towards the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Star boy Emile Witbooi was in his element in this game, assisting all three goals. Head coach Vela Khumalo says this tournament has given them a good idea for the World Cup preparations...
“When we started with tournament we made it clear that this will serve as preparation for the world cup. We want to prepare thoroughly and these games came in handy.
They came at a time when we wanted them the most. I think we had a good tournament. A few things we wanted to see and we can confirm we have seen them and a few players we have seen and we are happy with that.”
“Interestingly, Malawi was using its regular U20 side, meaning their players were older than Amajita, who finished the tournament unbeaten. Having played against Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini and Angola before the final, Khumalo feels that Malawi didn't push them enough, “To our opponents, Malawi they: gave us a good run, they will learn. I saw they game against Zambia and they gave us a little of respect and I don't know why.
And we were expecting them to give us a push so that we see.”
