Bafana Bafana coach refuses to comment on Mokoena's yellow cards

Date: Mar 26, 2025

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos refused to comment on the issue of Teboho Mokoena's yellow cards after last night's 2-0 win over Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier played at Stade Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan, Côte D'Ivoire.

News broke earlier yesterday that Bafana Bafana could be docked the three points from last Friday's 2-0 win over Lesotho in Polokwane, in South Africa's Limpopo Province after Bafana fielded Mokoena, who was ineligible to play that game after having accumulated two yellow cards, according to the FIFA rules. “Firstly, you understand that I will not comment on that. Its something that will be resolved in the next coming weeks , so you shouldn’t expect anything from me. No comment.”

Mokoena did not participate in last night's match, as Bafana Bafana extended their lead at the top of Group C to five points until FIFA's competent judicial bodies judge Mokoena's eligibility.

The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) and Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have protested Mokoena's ineligibility to FIFA.

Broos commended Bafana Bafana performance analyst Sinesipho Mali for the perfect game plan against the Cheetahs. ”First of all there was a good analysis of the opponent. Congratulations to our analysis.

The players did what we asked them . We knew where we could dangerous against them, its a good team.

What we did well was to keep the ball in the team and waiting for the right moments.”
