Date: Mar 11, 2025

President of Swimming South Africa (SA), Alan Fritz is confident that some rising swimming stars could reach the podium at the next Olympic Games if they receive the necessary funding and support to adequately prepare in the coming years.

Fritz shared that preparations for the upcoming Olympic cycle have already begun. He expressed optimism about SA's potential to secure several medals at the 2028 Games in the United States, while keeping a keen focus on the 2032 Games in Australia:

“ We are planning 2032 and 2036. So for 2028 Los Angelas our medal hopefuls are Matt States who lives in the United States  and  has shaken off the issues he had. Pieter is a medal contender , Rebecca is a medal contender and about two other girls, Kaylen is a medal contender.”

SA has produced incredible talents like Olympic stars Chad le Clos and the retired Tatjana Schoenmaker.

Fritz highlighted that through their learn-to-swim initiative, the future looks promising, with emerging athletes poised to shine at the 2036 Olympics, especially if SA becomes the host nation, as they have expressed interest in hosting the Games.

“Our juniors are looking exceptionally good . If you take the Junior championships in Mauritius , yes we came second to Egypt, we had a smaller team and we have exceptional juniors. To  produce Olympic athletes from known swimmers in the region of R13 million () to R17 million () and investors  more than the parent themselves.

So we have a few youngsters coming up he ranks ou would have seen them at the short course in Budapest.”
