It was the first time since London 2012 that Long topped the podium in the event, having also won it at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Games.
It was an exceptional night for Ukraine, meanwhile, with the war-torn nation picking up five medals in the pool.
Yaroslav Denysenko won the first gold of the night with victory in the men’s S12 100M freestyle. He was joined on the podium by compatriot Maksym Veraksa who took silver.
Denysenko would go on to earn another gold medal with teammates Maryna Piddubna, Oleksii Virchenko and Anna Stetsenko in the last race of the evening, the mixed 49 points 4×100 freestyle relay.
Andrii Trusov also took gold in the men’s S7 100m freestyle with a world record time of 26.38 seconds while Stetsenko added a silver in the women’s S12 100M freestyle.
Elsewhere, China’s Jiang Yuyan set a world record in the women’s S7 100M freestyle with a time of 1:09.68 minutes while Alexa Leary of Australia clocked in at 59.53 seconds in the S9 category of the same discipline to break the third world record of the evening’s action.
