Kasarani stadium ready as Kenya gears up for CHAN 2024

Date: Jul 3, 2025

With continental attention turning to East Africa, Kenya has taken a major step forward in its preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The country has officially handed over the refurbished Kasarani Stadium to the tournament’s Local Organising Committee.

The symbolic handover was led by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, who described the event as a “critical milestone” in Kenya’s journey to hosting the prestigious football competition. The Moi International Sports Centre, commonly known as Kasarani, will be the country’s main venue and is set to host the final on August 30.

Following extensive renovations, the stadium is now fully equipped to host Group A matches featuring Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Angola, and Zambia. Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Stars, will kick off their campaign against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3. The squad is under the guidance of South African head coach Benni McCarthy.

This year’s CHAN tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, running from August 2 to 30.
