There are two FIFA calendar periods left before the continental women's championship kicks off in Morocco in July.
The Capetonian is waiting on the SA Football Association (SAFA) to confirm two matches per window, March/April and May/June. Ellis was speaking after the two friendly fixtures against Lesotho at the University of Johannesburg Stadium on Tuesday. SA won 1-0 and 2-0, respectively, ‘We have FIFA dates March , April and another in May June.
Looking at two friendlies and waiting for SAFA to confirm that. We really want to play four more matches, and then we want to do our selection preparation and getting ready for WAFCON.”
Ellis was satisfied with how her youthful team expressed themselves against Mehalalitoe by winning the two games, and without conceding. The squad was made up of mainly U17 and U20 Women's National Team players. She believes it was a worthwhile exercise. With the hectic women's programme this year, Ellis says she would have liked to have another camp of this nature with the same players, but it is highly unlikely.
So we are looking beyond the WAFCON as well, because players are raising their hands and it does matter how old they are.
So we need to make sure that we get them ready , that we stay in contact and we try get another camp like there, and I don’t know where because there is no other FIFA break that we can utilise to be able to use these players to see whether they have learned and grown and help them.”
