Road closures, traffic delays expected in Cape Town due to marathon

Date: Oct 20, 2024

Road closures and traffic delays can be expected in several suburbs in Cape Town until Sunday afternoon. That’s because of the Cape Town Marathon that will take place in the Mother City.

The 42.2 km race will take a route that includes Newlands, ending in Green Point.

Authorities have warned the public that road closures will affect areas including the CBD, Green Point, District Six, Sea Point, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, Mowbray, Claremont, Rondebosch, and Newlands.

Maxine Bezuidenhout, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town, says Traffic Services will be present along major routes to manage any issues that may arise.

“The public can expect slow-moving traffic, so we advise the following – Leave earlier to reach your destination on time. Consult the various online navigation tools to find the best route to your destination. Be patient, as traffic volumes will likely be elevated.”
