SA’s Wellington bids farewell to former Springbok player Cornal Hendricks

Date: May 25, 2025

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the NG Kerk in Wellington, Boland, in the Western Cape, South Africa (SA), to pay their final respects to former Springbok player Cornal Hendricks.

The 37-year-old passed away just over a week ago after suffering a heart attack. He had been diagnosed with a heart condition in 2015.

Hendricks made his Springboks debut in 2014, playing 12 Tests and scoring five tries.

The Director of Vodacom Bulls and former Springboks coach, Jake White, is among the mourners.

Pastor Robbie Brazelle, a close friend of the late Springbok rugby player, described him as a dedicated and hard-working individual who was committed to both his rugby career and helping others.

Brazelle says Hendricks brought life into many people’s lives.

“And that’s why he served God in such a way. That’s why he had such an impact on all of your lives. That’s why this building is too small. That’s why these memorial services are more than one. That’s why schools honour him; that’s why the rugby fraternity honours him. It’s not just what he did on the rugby field but what he did off the field.”
