SA Springbok Women to face Spain on Saturday game

Date: Apr 16, 2025

The South African (SA) rugby team, Springbok Women scrum Coach Laurian Johannes-Haupt says they have worked hard on becoming a formidable set-piece unit and a strong scrummaging side.

She says they are determined to play to those strengths when they meet Spain in Elche on Saturday.

This follows another good training session at the team's base at the Bonalba Golf Resort in Alicante on Tuesday where a lot of focus went into scrumming and mauling options for the team.

The 12-ranked Springbok Women will be facing the 13th-ranked Spanish women's team on Saturday.

While this is the first test of the year for the SA, Spain is entering the contest more battle hardened.

The two sides met twice in 2024, once in Valladolid and once in Cape Town, with the Springbok Women winning on both occasions.

They also enjoyed a 94% success rate in scrums on their own feed compared to Spain's 74%. The South African (SA) rugby team, Springbok Women scrum Coach Laurian Johannes-Haupt says they have worked hard on becoming a formidable set-piece unit and a strong scrummaging side.

The Springbok Women team to face Spain on Saturday will be named on Wednesday.
