Kaizer Chiefs plans to establish women’s football team

Date: Jun 27, 2025

South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs has taken the first bold step towards establishing a women's football team and have signed an agreement with Gauteng's leading women's football side Home Sweepers.

The move also comes as part of complying with the CAF club licensing regulations for teams participating in inter-club competitions.

Home Sweepers is a team competing in the Sasol Provincial Women's League and is owned by Chiefs legend and former Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph "Skheshekheshe" Mkhonza. Motaung says this is their first step towards getting into the women's football space...

“ Our approach is not one of compliance, it's one of involvement, participation and making sure that women's football is well represented.

We have been supporting a club in the league that many people don't know about for a few years now, we're excited about that, and we are making sure that women's football in South Africa is going to change.

"And we'll make announcements in due course, but I'm excited about it and I've just come back from a women's leadership conference at CAF, which was quite inspiring to meet women making a big difference on the continent and adding to women's leadership in the game.”
