Mofokeng has impressed with 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, sparking talk of what many believe is an overdue move abroad.
Initially, Broos was among those who cautioned against an early overseas switch, urging the then-teenager to remain with Pirates for at least another season. Now, the Belgian coach has acknowledged that a move may be on the cards, but warned that the choice of club will be critical to Mofokeng’s development.
Speaking to SABC Sport after naming his latest squad, Broos said, “The only advice I can give is, they have to make the right choice. That’s the only advice. Like Mbokazi, he has played 15 games for Orlando Pirates, going to Europe? Okay, it would be no problem, but you have to make the right choice.”
He stressed the importance of game time, “If you go to a club where you don’t play or don’t have a chance to play, I think then it’s better to stay one more year at Orlando Pirates.”
Broos concluded by calling for responsible guidance from the player’s support structure:
“That’s up to the player, his family, and his agent. I hope his agent is looking to the future of the player and not to his wallet.”
Mofokeng’s future remains one of the most anticipated transfer stories ahead of the new European season.
