Senong was appointed to the role under FIFA’s Technical Development Scheme (TDS) programme in September last year. Speaking to SABC Sport on the sidelines of the Engen Knockout Challenge draw for the Gauteng region, he highlighted positive strides made in youth development in Malawi.
“Malawi has been very good. I have just completed six months full-time with the programme there, doing talent ID and development, and recruiting boys and girls aged 14 to 15 into our national centre,” said Senong.
“We are happy the U17s have just reached the COSAFA Cup final. We had six players from our academy in that squad.”
Senong’s appointment forms part of FIFA’s broader initiative to strengthen grassroots football and youth pathways across the continent.
