The Proteas have named allrounder Wiaan Mulder to bat at No. 3, while Australia have moved their regular No. 3, Marnus Labuschagne, up to open the batting to make room for fellow allrounder Cameron Green at first drop.
Mulder is not a typical No. 3 selection but has been included in that position to provide a fifth bowling option, specifically someone who can swing the ball.
The toughest selection call for SA was between Lungi Ngidi and Dane Paterson for the third seamer spot behind Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen. Ngidi was ultimately preferred, despite Paterson’s impressive record during the World Test Championship and his current familiarity with Lord’s conditions, having been active in the County Championship with Middlesex.
Play is set to begin at 11:30 AM CAT.
