“Bok jersey cannot be taken for granted”

Date: Jun 26, 2025

The Springboks know that time in a Bok jersey cannot be taken for granted and so while Saturday's match against the Barbarians is not a test match, players like Aphelele Fassi and Jean-Luc Du Preez are treating the run-out as if it was a test.

It's the first match of the season for the Green and Gold, and there are many objectives to achieve, both personal and as a team.

The weather in Cape Town is set to have its say on the way the match against the Barbarians plays out. Bok fullback, Aphelele Fassi, says the dreary conditions will affect the Baabaas more so than the Boks,“ For us it is not different to how we are approaching the game maybe for them its quite different because they are an entertaining team for the cape town fans but for us we are going to implement our physical game onto them and how we want to play so the weather for us doesn't really have a huge impact.”

The forwards are also anticipating something different from the invitational outfit. Eighth man Jean-Luc Du Preez says the make up and nationality of the Barbarians pack indicates that they will be relishing contact rather than spreading the ball wide, “They are an expansive team and like to put on a display for the crowd but I think the likes of Shannon Frizzell and Sam Kane and those boys they are going to be coming hard they are going to want to prove themselves against the Boks and that’s where we will need to front up on Saturday and hopefully we do that.”
