Captain Andy Balbirnie will resume the third morning on 32 not out along with Curtis Campher on 14. Peter Moor was the only wicket to fall in Ireland's second innings after he was out for 30.
Zimbabwe took a slender first-innings advantage of seven runs as debutant Nick Welch top scored with 90, but he found little support from his teammates as the home side lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 267.
Blessing Muzarabani followed up his career-best figures of 7-58 with the ball with a top test score of 47 batting at number 10 to boost Zimbabwe's total, while Barry McCarthy (4-75) and Andy McBrine (3-59) were the pick of the Ireland bowlers.
