Peseiro has signed an 18-month contract with the Egyptian club, taking over from Swiss tactician Gross, who was hired in December 2024 to succeed José Gomez.
The Portuguese coach returns to the Egyptian league after previously managing Zamalek’s rivals, Al Ahly, during the 2015/16 season. Peseiro brings solid experience, having led both club and national teams.
His coaching career includes stints at several European clubs and African national teams, notably Nigeria, whom he guided to the final of the last TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.
Zamalek has already secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, finishing atop Group B with 16 points from five wins and one draw. The club enters the knockout rounds as the reigning champions, having defeated Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane in last season’s final.
On the domestic front, Zamalek currently sits third in the Egyptian league with 26 points from 13 rounds, trailing second-placed Al Ahly and table-toppers Pyramids FC. Fans of the Cairo-based club hope that Peseiro’s leadership will boost their squad’s performance and lead them to further silverware by the season’s end.
