Proteas Women's head coach remains unfazed by his side's recent batting stumbles

Date: Jun 25, 2025

Proteas Women's head coach Mandla Mashimbyi remains unfazed by his side's recent batting stumbles on the Caribbean tour.

Despite flashes of brilliance from Tazmin Brits, skipper Laura Wolvaardt, and Sune Luus, the team struggled for consistency at the crease.

Mashimbyi brushed it off as part of the game, saying dips in form are simply chances for others to step up and be counted.

Its cricket you know some people will fail some people will do well but the lovely thing about this team now is that we do know we have a bit of depth from the bat point of view and players down the batting order have put us in good positions.

Mashimbyi has shown a lot of faith in young players in the last two tours, with both Miane Smit and Karabo Meso making their debuts and looking like permanent fixtures in the team. He says they are an investment into the Proteas Women's future.

South Africa begins their World Cup campaign on October 3 against four-time champions England in Bengaluru.

“The two youngsters is hell of an experience for them and I think they will go on to become solid cricketers for South Africa for years to come and there is no better time for us or for me as coach to give them the opportunity to get out there and face the music and then we just take the learnings and they keep growing from they were when I first came in and where they are now so they made some good strides. I just feel like we are investing in the right people and these youngsters will come to age as time goes on.”
