CAF recruits veteran SA administrator

CAF Head of television and Communications Luxolo September has revealed the recruitment of veteran South African (SA) administrator Derek Blanckensee is part of continuing to grow the federation.

This was revealed at the unveiling of the new CAF Champions League trophy in Johannesburg ahead of the first leg of the final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

September previously worked with Blanckensee at the Premier Soccer League before heading off to CAF. He says the appointment is part of enhancing African football.

“We have just hired a South African there to head our professional club football because we are serious about this part.

We are looking a seeing how to give it a strong sentiments , but also ensuring what people are saying across the board. Just the design of the trophy took long for people to discuss about it.

There is a big discussion about how interclub connection should look like in Africa. How do we look at these products to ensue they have their own identity.}

September also put into context why CAF felt the need to create a new trophy ahead of the final in Pretoria and Cairo.
