Date: Nov 16, 2024

For the first time in 16 years, South Africa's men's national football team has qualified for an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament back-to-back (through qualifiers) and also with two games to spare, much to delight of head coach Hugo Broos.

South Sudan's 3-2 shocking victory at home over a 10-man Congo yesterday, ensured that both South Africa and Uganda qualify for the next AFCON in Morocco next year.

Speaking to the media in Kampala last night just a few hours after this result, an excited Broos described how he received the news of this qualification, as the camp went wild after this,” You know this afternoon the game started in Congo after halftime I looked and saw 2-2 , I was hoping I didn’t see any more before I got there message from my assistant coach who said we have qualified. So that its for me a little surprised, but it shows again that South Africa to win games outside.”
