The three athletes will represent Kenya in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, going head-to-head with 14 other elite runners. Among their competitors are the 2020 Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda and the 2012 World U20 champion Daisy Jepkemei, now representing Kazakhstan.
The Kenyan runners will be seeking their first international victories of the season, following a challenging and underwhelming start to 2025.
Caren Chebet, the 2017 World U18 champion, will be looking to bounce back after failing to finish her race at last weekend’s Kip Keino Classic World Continental Tour in Nairobi. Her only podium finish this year came at the national trials for the World Relays on April 12, where she won the women’s 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:36.28.
Jackline Chepngeno will be making her return to competitive racing after nearly three years. Her last outing was at the Frankfurt Marathon in October 2022, where she finished third in 2:25:14. The 32-year-old also boasts a silver medal from the 2016 African Championships in Durban, South Africa, where she clocked 31:27.73 in the women’s 10,000m.
The trio will be aiming to surpass last year’s performance at the FBK Games, where Ferdinand Omanyala was Kenya’s sole winner, clinching the men’s 100m in 10.01 seconds.
