Mumbai Indians part ways with Mark Boucher

Date: Oct 17, 2024

Former Proteas wicketkeeper Mark Boucher has been axed as head coach of IPL outfit Mumbai Indians and will be replaced in the role by Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene.

Mumbai finished last in this year's IPL under the guidance of ex-South Africa mentor Boucher, who oversaw just four wins in 14 matches.

Last year Boucher led the franchise to the playoffs where they lost in the second qualifier to Gujarat Titans. Jayawardene had previously served as Mumbai's head coach from 2017 to 2022 before taking on a broader role as the franchise's global head of performance.

The former Sri Lanka skipper became one of the most successful coaches in IPL history when he led Mumbai to three titles during his first tenure.
