Okon wins second gold at World Athletics U20 Championships

Team South Africa has won its fourth medal, a second gold, at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Udeme Okon stormed through in the home straight to win the men’s 400 metres title.

He clocked a time of 45.69 seconds.

Two Americans, Jayden Davis and Sidi Njie, finished second and third.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Bayanda Walaza is on course for the sprint double.

The South African who won the 100 metres title yesterday, qualified fastest for the 200 metres final.

He won his semi-final in 21 seconds, four hundredths of a second quicker than the time ran by American Jaden Wiley.

The final will take place tomorrow morning.
