SAFA intends to bid for 2031 Women’s World Cup

Date: Nov 3, 2024

South African Football Association (SAFA) has indicated their intention to bid for the hosting rights of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2031. The country’s football governing body withdrew from the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup bid race.

SAFA cited that the time frame for developing the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup bid was challenging as the reason for pulling out.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan is hoping they will have a formidable Banyana Banyana team competing on home soil in 2031.

“We are waiting for FIFA to give a requirement for the bid process of 2031 and as soon as they give us the requirements, we will indicate to them that we would like to enter the bid and hopefully if we are successful together with the programme of building women’s football and building a peak Banyana Banyana, we will have a good team to participate in that world cup and hopefully in South Africa.”
