SA Rugby President hits back at the unions

Date: Mar 14, 2024

South African Rugby President Mark Alexander has hit back at the unions who are understood to be unhappy with paying hosting fees for Test matches in 2024.

Alexander addressing the media at a Springbok press conference in Cape Town said it's a sad day when the unions decided to go to the press to voice their concerns.

Alexander says they will deal with those unions at the general council today. “We've been more than generous to assist our franchises in generating additional funds for them. What shocked me was to read about it in the press, without talking to us first.

“The first time we saw it was published in the press. But that we'll deal with at our members' forum this Thursday.

We thought we were assisting them and showing goodwill allocating Tests, where around the world that's part of the union's main revenue stream.”
