Dream for all SA CAF Champions League final alive

Date: Apr 23, 2025

A dream for an all South African (SA) CAF Champions League final is still alive as Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates ready themselves for the semi-final second legs in Cairo, Eygpt.

Both matches ended goalless in Tshwane and Soweto on Saturday against Pyramids and Al Ahly respectively.

Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso believes the Brazilians can beat them despite playing in their backyard.

“I know Sundowns already won in Al Ahly several times, I know everything and I still believe we can beat them because we didn’t lose to them.

So there is still a lot f believe on the pitch. Despite not having lost a single game in their last 7 head-to-head encounters since 2021, Miguel Cardoso says they respect Al Ahly for what they achieved in recent years.

“You should be respectful when you speak about who is ahead of you. We are speaking about a team in five years they have played in five finals and in 2021 they beat Kaizer Chiefs  3-0 in the final.”
