German fourth seed, Alexander Zverev, is also through to the third round. He recorded a straight sets victory over Alexandre Muller of France.

In the women’s singles, second-seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, cruised into round three with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lucia Bronzetti of Italy, while third-seeded American, Coco Gauff, was just as impressive.

The 20-year-old defending champion accounted for German Tatjana Maria 6-4, 6-love.
