Proteas back home after defeating Australia during ICC World Test Champions

Date: Jun 18, 2025

The ICC World Test Champions are back home following their heroic performance in the final at Lord's last week where they beat defending champions, Australia, to win their first ICC final in 27 years.

The Proteas were met by a relatively small, but enthusiastic crowd of supporters. Two of the heroes of the Proteas victory, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and second innings centurion and player of the match, Aiden Markram, were dumb struck by the welcome they received at OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park East of Johannesburg..

Very happy, this is beautiful to see, thank you to everyone for coming out,  a very proud moment for us as the cricket South Africa.

a pretty overwhelming to be fair, we didn't expect this turn out, thanks to the fans for the support over the years , it is amazing to be part of this experience.

Themba Bavuma and his men emerge from customs and into the arrivals hall soon where a small, but enthusiastic crowd welcome them home...

you know it is very important to come here and welcome our world champions Themba, you name them those are the world champions, it's a great victory, they played their hearts out, 27 years i think that's a bigger achievement, we are the best in rugby and cricket and maybe one day soccer, i really want to be one of them when I am older.”
