It advised against nonessential travel to the East African nation due to a significant outbreak of Marburg disease.
The US Department of Health and Human Services corroborated this advisory, announcing that enhanced screening measures will be implemented for travellers from Rwanda entering the United States, particularly those who have visited the country within the last 21 days.
This heightened alert follows a level 2 travel notice issued last week, which recommended increased precautions. The outbreak, reminiscent of the Ebola virus with a high fatality rate of up to 88%, was first identified in late September.
Since then, Rwanda has reported 46 cases and 12 fatalities.
In response to the crisis, Rwandan health authorities have initiated a vaccination campaign, targeting healthcare workers who are most exposed to the virus and individuals who have had close contact with confirmed cases.
The swift action aims to contain the spread of the disease and protect those at the forefront of the outbreak.
