Date: Oct 24, 2024

ActionSA, a South African opposition party has voiced serious concerns regarding the escalating tensions in neighbouring Mozambique.

The situation has been exacerbated by widespread protests disputing the validity of the latest presidential and parliamentary elections. The political unrest has led to fears of a potential surge in migration from Mozambique to South Africa.

The already volatile atmosphere took a sombre turn with the assassination of Elvis Dias, an opposition lawyer actively involved in challenging the alleged electoral fraud.

This incident has intensified the urgency for a response, prompting Athol Trollip, ActionSA's parliamentary leader, to announce plans to reach out to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Ronald Lamola, the Minister of International Relations, seeking their immediate intervention in the matter.

The party emphasises the need for a diplomatic resolution to restore peace and prevent further tragedies.
