Tiffany Nicole Meek was arrested on Friday. The case has been postponed to Friday, following her first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court in western Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. 

The boy was reported missing by his mother on Tuesday, May 12, and he was found the next morning, half-naked and unconscious on the staircase of the complex in which he lived. 

He was declared dead shortly after arriving at Discovery Hospital. 

Community leader in Fleurhof, June Phillip says, "The community is devastated by the alleged perpetrator, who was arrested on Friday. The community is very sad, because we as a community supported the mother and the family. And apparently the mother was arrested on Friday. So, the community is really sad and devastated, especially the community of Fleurhof. 

The wounds were opened on Friday, where the community actually moaned. I feel that if the police went out on the day that she reported Jayden missing, and went into the house, maybe-just maybe, they could’ve found Jayden in the house." 

Deputy police Minister Polly Boshielo says more arrests are expected. 

"The 31-year-old Meek is charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria and and obstructing the course of justice. This is in relation to her own son, which is so sad. We will be following this case very closely until there is a conviction in this matter, and in this matter, we cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests. As the investigations into the murder of Jayden continue," Boshielo says.

Community leaders from Fleurhof in Roodepoort say they, too, believe Jayden’s mother did not act alone. Community leader Riona Coetzee says she believes that more family members are going to be arrested.
