This follows reports of some criminal syndicates allegedly selling electricity tokens to customers queuing outside Eskom offices to have their meters re-configured ahead of Sunday's deadline.
There are also reports of people claiming to be Eskom officials and offering to register meters for customers at a fee.
Johannesburg Metro Police and the Gauteng Crime Wardens are patrolling the vicinity.
Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi says, “I have not heard of any, but if they are here we would alert our protective services colleagues so that they can do their intelligence. And if they do find out that there are those individuals, they will deal with it from their side.”
