Acting Health Promotions Manager at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa, Sister Juandre Watson, says obesity can lead to other diseases and illnesses. “I would really like to advise everyone is that because of the risks involved with obesity can include problems later on like high blood pressure, it can also lead to diabetes, gallstones, sleep apnoea.
“So due to this, I would definitely say that we all need to take account for our own health and by looking at our weight and other factors.
“We need to find a way to reduce our weight if we are obese and if we are overweight so that we have less risk of developing cardiovascular disease. We do this not only when we are adults but we need to implement this from an early age.”
