In the December 2023 judgment, the High Court found that the processes the President had followed were flawed.
However, the court declined to set aside the recognition of the new King. Princes Mbonisi Bhekithemba ka Bhekuzulu and Simakade ka Zwelithini Zulu are among those that have challenged Ramaphosa's recognition of King Misuzulu.
