South Sudan marks 13 years of independence

Date: Jul 9, 2024

South Sudan is today marking 13 years of independence.

Around 9 million people, 72% of South Sudan’s population, will require humanitarian assistance in 2024.

Seven million people are expected to experience severe food insecurity between April and July 2024, with thousands living in famine-like conditions.

Under-nutrition remains at critical levels for 1.4 million children.

The purpose of the agreement was to end South Sudan's bloody civil war, which has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and created a large refugee and humanitarian crisis.
