The arrests stem from an intelligence-driven operation at the Beitbridge border post, aimed at combating corruption and enhancing the integrity of SA's ports of entry.
The two BMA officials, along with two suspected facilitators, were apprehended on Tuesday after allegedly accepting a bribe to allow a taxi carrying travellers to pass through the border. Upon interception, the vehicle was found to be transporting 18 passengers, five of whom were undocumented immigrants.
BMA Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Communication, Mmemme Mogotsi, highlighted the significance of the operation. "In a concerted effort to root out corruption and strengthen the integrity of SA's ports of entry operations, the Border Management Authority conducted a successful intelligence-driven operation at the Beitbridge port of entry during the Easter period," Mogotsi stated.
