SA public urged to use fireworks responsibly

Date: Dec 29, 2024

South Africa’s (SA) Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has called on the public to use fireworks responsibly this festive season.

EMS Spokesperson Xolile Khumalo emphasised the need for adult supervision when children handle firecrackers and urged consideration for pets, which can be distressed by fireworks.

“Please ensure pets are locked away during this time and adhere to permitted fireworks times: 11pm to 1am (CAT) on New Year’s Eve, and between 7pm and 10pm (CAT) on other days,” said Khumalo.

The EMS remains on high alert to respond to any emergencies.
