The investigation follows the discovery of mortar rounds with matching serial numbers in a convoy seized in Darfur last November.

Bulgaria had confirmed it sent 81mm mortar rounds to the UAE military in 2019, but the serial numbers found on the seized rounds match those shipments.

Pro-government militia members shared photos and videos online showing the rounds after the seizure. While the UAE has denied arming the RSF, this discovery raises further questions about the flow of weapons into Sudan's ongoing conflict.
