Letsie III said recognising food as a right is a commitment. However, the harsh reality must be confronted: one in 11 people, and one in five in Africa, faced hunger in 2023.
“The issue at hand extends beyond mere hunger,” he said. “The right to food encompasses ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food.”
Regrettably, a staggering one third of the world’s population cannot afford a healthy diet, demanding urgent action to avoid dire consequences, with children not thriving and people not reaching their full potential.
The challenge is achievable, he said.
“The importance of nutrition cannot be overstated,” he said. “It is the foundation upon which we build a prosperous future.”
