SA training behind global counterparts on access to education for children under 9

Date: May 21, 2025

Education Specialist at United Nations International Children Emergency's Fund (UNICEF) Andre Viviers says South Africa (SA) remains behind most countries when it comes to access to education by children younger than nine

Speaking during an Education Conference hosted by the G20 group of nations, Viviers outlined several strategies, including improving teacher skills

“The one determinant that tells us whether children will have quality learning experiences from birth to nine years is the quality of the workforce and that means there are three pillars in terms of that, the first one is qualifications, the second one is professional development,” Viviers said.
