Concerns over counterfeit condoms in SA

Date: Jan 23, 2025

Private health care companies in South Africa(SA) say they are concerned about the counterfeit condoms being sold in the country.

The Health Department issued a warning to the public to look out for counterfeit condoms in circulation.

The department says it is working with the private sector, to tackle the problem. It has also urged consumers to report the sale of fake condoms, and to rely on condoms from public health care facilities, which are available for free.

Avian Bell is  Chief Executive Officer of Quantumed,” It surprises me but it also doesn't surprise me, so for as long as products have been around, there's always been this element where people try and keep a cheaper version and unfortunately in doing that, you get inferior products being distributed in the market and now the issue doesn't necessarily end there, you actually have teams of people that take it a step further and replicate proper brands to try and capitalize on this brand names reputation.”
