South Africa's (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has joined world leaders in paying tribute to the former president.
He's conveyed his condolences to Lungu's family and to President Hakainde Hichilema.
Ramaphosa says SA is standing by the people of Zambia in this difficult moment.
He says SA has the duty and privilege in recent weeks to care for Lungu whom the country has embraced as a brother and friend.
Ramaphosa says SA share the grief and loss experienced by the Lungu family as well as the Zambian nation.
Meanwhile, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta says Lungu was not only a distinguished statesman who served his country with dedication and honour but also a man of humility, wisdom and unwavering faith.
Kenyatta says his commitment to the prosperity and unity of Zambia was evident throughout his presidency and his calm, and measured leadership will be remembered.
