Calls for urgent action to tackle illicit financial flow in Africa

Date: Jun 25, 2025

Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director of the Global Institutions Unit, Ambassador B.B. Hamman, has called for urgent action to tackle illicit financial flows and advance debt relief across the African continent.

He was speaking to Channel Africa at the 3rd G20 Sherpas Meeting in North West Province, South Africa (SA).

The theme is "Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability."

Hamman noted that amid escalating geopolitical tensions and growing protectionism, the G20 has a critical role to play in promoting global stability and fostering peace.

“We advocate for the priorities set aside by SA for the G20 which also tailors to the emancipation of Africa.

Also we call for the support of measures to combat corruption including the timely return of illicit financial flows and the repatriation of profits that accrue in those financial flows that go somewhere else from Africa.”
