A voting station that is based at Homu 14 C village has registered about 2 000 voters from Mozambique.

Majority of the registered voters say they are voting for socio-economic change in their country.

Mozambican nationals will head to the polls to vote tomorrow.

Community leader Admiro Maluleque says voters are expected to arrive at the voting station to fulfill their democratic right to vote.

“This is 14 C village; it emanates from a camp called Hluphekani which is not far from where we are now. This is the polling station that we have in Limpopo so that people can cast their votes since elections have been allowed for people that are abroad like us and we are expecting more or less 2 000 people to come and vote here at this polling station. It is going to be very interesting; people are ready for that.”

Majority of the Mozambicans were refugees at former camps after fleeing their home country during the civil war in the 80s. At the center of their village, lies a monument dedicated to some of Mozambique’s heroes as a reminder of their home.

Maluleque says that there are approximately 13 voting stations in Limpopo.

“This area Limpopo is an area that is being controlled in terms of diplomatic, it is being controlled by our Consulate in Nelspruit, Mbombela and then Mbombela has two designations in terms of provinces which is Limpopo and Mpumalanga. So, Limpopo and Mpumalanga Province have registered a lot of Mozambicans that will be going to the polls. Here in Limpopo, we have 30 polling stations that are already ready to receive people.”

Some Mozambican nationals who are ready to vote on Wednesday general elections say that they want to see change in their country.

“We are eager to head to the polls, most of us are ready to cast our votes. The biggest thing I want to see is a new era and a change in my country. I am going to come here to vote so as to see change happening.”

Preparations to welcome voters at the station are under way.
