Former SA State railway company executives granted bail over multi-million Dollar fraud case

Date: Jun 30, 2025

Four former top executives of South Africa’s (SA) State-owned rail agency, Transnet, have been granted bail of just over $2 800 each by the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court in Johannesburg.

The accused, former Chief Executive Officers Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama, former Chief Financial Officer Anoj Singh, and former Engineer Thamsanqa Jiyane, handed themselves over to police on Tuesday morning.

They face charges relating to a $5.2 million irregular payment made to Trillian Asset Management in 2012. The payment was allegedly compensation for arranging a $94 million loan to finance the procurement of locomotives.
