Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to make history as Namibia's first woman President

Date: Mar 21, 2025

Namibia is set to witness a historic moment this Friday as President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah takes the oath of office, becoming the country's first woman head of state.

Her inauguration follows a Supreme Court ruling last month that dismissed opposition challenges to the 2024 Presidential election results.

The opposition had claimed that voting extensions and other issues rendered the election flawed, but the court upheld its validity.

South Africa's (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Nandi-Ndaitwah and her administration.

Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya reaffirmed SA's commitment to strengthening ties with Namibia, highlighting shared goals of regional co-operation and continental integration.

"President Ramaphosa is looking forward to working closely with the new president of Namibia and the government to advance mutual political, and economic interests and the integration of the African continent," Magwenya stated.

He emphasised the importance of pursuing Africa's renewal, sub-Southern cooperation, and a rules-based international system.
