ICRC recommend ways to resolve conflicts in Africa

Date: May 21, 2025

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Southern Africa says there are always ways to resolve conflicts in Africa.

The ICRC says that there are 23 active conflicts in Africa, some involving tribal and ethnic differences.

However, the organisation is concerned that recently women and children are killed and raped in countries under-going conflicts.

In a ground-breaking effort to spotlight the roots of international humanitarian law in African traditions, the ICRC launched an initiative called ‘The Tool on African Traditions and the Preservation of Humanity in Warfare’.

This is to explore the continent's historical relationship with the law of armed conflict through local practices and values.
