SA Defence Minister appointed as acting President

Date: Aug 17, 2024

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed the Defence and Military Veterans Minister Angie Motshekga to act as President.

By Bomkazi Malobola

This is because Ramaphosa is on a visit to Harare, Zimbabwe, to participate in the 44th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community.

Motshekga is the first to be appointed Acting President under the Government of National Unity.

The move has been hailed as a recognition of women as the country celebrates Women’s Month.
