SA President pledges unity, collaboration in inaugural address

Date: Jun 19, 2024

South Africa's (SA) President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has pledged to work collaboratively with all political parties and sectors to address the nation's challenges.

In his acceptance speech at the inauguration ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday, Ramaphosa emphasised his commitment to unity and service.

Ramaphosa's speech followed his swearing-in as President of a government of unity with the Democratic Alliance after the African National Congress, which has governed solely for 30 years failed to win an outright majority, marking a significant moment for the country.

He highlighted the importance of his oath, noting it reflects the will of the South African people, a steadfast commitment to the Constitution, and the duty to unite the nation.

"Today, I make a solemn commitment to be a President for all South Africans, to defend our Constitution and protect our democracy; to work with all those who share the dream of a better life for all; to care for the poor and the vulnerable and to support all those who are in need; and to make our country stronger, more resilient, more equal and united," Ramaphosa declared.

Ramaphosa's remarks were met with applause, signalling widespread support for his vision.
